John Fortey, a wealthy wool merchant, 1458.
The church has a unique collection of wool merchant’s brasses and John Fortey himself is attributed as the benefactor who enabled the building of the perpendicular nave of the church. Note the sheep and woolpack at the feet of John Fortey. This brass is part of a larger plate that is bordered by six wreathed medallions (not part of this rubbing) which contain the initials J.F. and his trade mark.
